The recent US national focus on clinical decision has brought this long standing and worsening problem to national attention. Wisdoc believe the solution is to quickly and effectively address the problem without recrimination or blame which would simply make more it difficult to introduce the necessary changes. Suffice to say that we believe the scale of the problem is deep and serious.
Particularly in the USA with the demise of primary care and the assumption of the role in HMOs by specialists rarely trained in the area, a high quality supporting information system is paramount. With the renewed upward pressure on health costs now that the relatively easy savings have been made, the Wisdoc scheme offers a completely new arena of potential health cost reduction. The Idaho Blue Cross study of the major impact that even a simple community health information system can have on emergency room and primary care doctor usage is indicative of the potential. There is a need for a health information utility to supply today’s patient and health care professional with current accessible information that can be relied on to make real contemporary decisions. While the Wisdoc model for providing such a service may appear intuitive and straightforward, no one has yet done it. This is a wonderful opportunity to make both a worthy and valuable investment |
